The most common reason for this is that the steering is locked. Luckily, this is usually a super quick and easy fix. Follow the steps below:
Insert your key into the ignition.
Put your foot on the break.
Ensure your vehicle is in park.
While doing all the above, wiggle your steering wheel back and forth while simultaneously turning the key.
Voilà! The steering lock should now be released. If it doesn’t work the first time, give it another wiggle.
