Details on our Self Contained Campervans when travelling in New Zealand

Updated over a week ago

What does Self Contained mean?

In New Zealand, self-containment refers to a vehicle, such as a campervan or motorhome, being equipped to manage waste independently for a specific timeframe without needing external facilities (such as rubbish removal, toilet and waste water management).

Which JUCY Vehicles are Self Contained?

Our JUCY Condo+, Cruiser and JUCY Chaser, Chill'd 6 by JUCY are our fully self-contained campers.

How do I know its Self Contained?

Each of our self contained vehicles have either a Blue or a Green certificate on them as they have been certified to meet the requirements of the self containment regulations.

There is a certificate, and a sticker which is displayed on your vehicle sample images as per below:

Why do some vehicles have a Blue or a Green Certificate?

From 7th December 2024, all vehicles will need to be certified with a green warrant to be certified self-contained under the new requirements.

The blue warrant is being phased out and so you may see some of our vehicles with this type of certificate until the new green certificates come into effect.

What if my vehicle is not classified as Self Contained?

If your vehicle is not classified as self-contained, there will be restrictions on where you can stay overnight (especially freedom camping areas) within New Zealand. You will have the following options available to you;

  • Speak to us about changing your vehicle type. You can contact us and discuss what alternative vehicle options are available to you to upgrade your booking.

  • You can stay at designated campgrounds or campgrounds / caravan / holiday parks which welcome non self-contained vehicles. These locations provide facilities such as toilets, cooking areas and powered sites (important if you want to use all the features of your vehicle and charge up your power).

  • Enjoy flexible access to KiwiCamp facilities across New Zealand with the KiwiCash Digital Key which you can purchase from any of our branches for $5 NZD.
